¡Hola padres!
¡Bienvenidos! to the Spanish program at Brookview School. My name is Cecilia Aguilera. I was born in San Luis Potosi, México, and moved to Michigan 6 years ago. I enjoy sharing my language and culture with the children and all the family. Some topics we are going to learn this school year are greetings, colors, animals, weather, food and family as well as some culture of Spanish speaking countries.
What you can do at home: I need your help practicing at home with your child. Each week I will be posting in the Spanish website a newsletter like this one with the vocabulary and songs we learned during the week. I encourage you to spend some time reviewing the vocabulary together with your child.

Cultural Lesson
El dia de los muertos ( day of the dead)
November 2nd is the traditional Dia de los Muertos (day of the dead). People prepare altars with pictures of the deceased along with their favorite food and drinks. Candles and orange flowers are used to decorate the altars, sugar skulls with the name of the deceased are made too. People believe that the souls come at night to enjoy the smells of all what they did enjoy when they were alive.
Vocabulario: velas - candles, flores- flowers, calaveras de azúcar- sugar skulls, esqueleto- skeleton , ofrendas - offerings, altar - altar, la muerte - the dead.
